Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Pork
Trim excess fat from the pork shoulder and pat it dry with paper towels.
- 2
Make the Rub
In a bowl, mix together the brown sugar, paprika, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper until well combined.
- 3
Rub the Pork
Generously apply the spice rub all over the pork shoulder, making sure to coat all sides.
Cooking
- 4
Slow Cook the Pork
Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a slow cooker. Add the apple cider vinegar and water around the pork. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or until the pork is tender and easily pulls apart with a fork.
- 5
Shred the Pork
Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and place it on a cutting board. Using two forks, shred the pork into bite-sized pieces.
- 6
Add Barbecue Sauce
Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker. Pour the barbecue sauce over the pork and stir to combine. Cook on low for an additional 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Serving
- 7
Serve the Pulled Pork
Serve the pulled pork on buns with extra barbecue sauce, coleslaw, or your favorite toppings.
