Gravy Ingredients

Method

Biscuit Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until combined.

  3. 3

    Cut in Butter

Cut the cold unsalted butter into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. 4

    Add Buttermilk

Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Stir gently until just combined; do not overmix.

  5. 5

    Shape the Dough

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together. Pat it into a rectangle about 1-inch thick.

  6. 6

    Cut Biscuits

Use a biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  7. 7

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.

Gravy Directions

  1. 8

    Cook Sausage

In a skillet over medium heat, crumble and cook the ground sausage until it is browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 9

    Make Roux

Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir to combine. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes to form a roux.

  3. 10

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue cooking, stirring frequently until the mixture thickens, about 5 minutes.

  4. 11

    Season the Gravy

Add salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes to the gravy. Stir to combine and adjust seasoning to taste.

  5. 12

    Serve

Serve the gravy hot over the freshly baked biscuits.
