1. Rinse the Rice

Place the basmati rice in a fine-mesh strainer and rinse under cold running water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and helps the rice cook evenly.

2. Soak the Rice

Transfer the rinsed rice to a bowl and cover it with water. Soak for at least 30 minutes. This step is optional but helps achieve a better texture.

3. Prepare to Steam

In a saucepan, combine the soaked rice, 1.5 cups of water, and 0.5 tsp of salt. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.

4. Cook the Rice

Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan with a tight-fitting lid, and let it simmer for about 15-18 minutes or until all the water is absorbed.

5. Fluff the Rice

Remove the saucepan from heat and let it sit, covered, for another 5 minutes. Then, use a fork to fluff the rice gently.
