Preparation Steps
- 1
Prepare the Batter
In a bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually add the beer (or sparkling water) while whisking until smooth.
- 2
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- 3
Batter the Cod
Dip each cod fillet into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated.
- 4
Fry the Cod
Carefully place the battered cod fillets in the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 4-5 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- 5
Cook the Fries
While the cod is frying, prepare the frozen French fries according to the package instructions.
- 6
Prepare the Coleslaw
Serve with a side of coleslaw (store-bought or homemade).
- 7
Serve
Plate the fried cod alongside the fries and coleslaw. Serve with tartar sauce for dipping.
