Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Rinse the Rice

Place the basmati rice in a fine-mesh sieve or bowl. Rinse under cold running water for about 2-3 minutes until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming sticky.

  2. 2

    Soak the Rice

After rinsing, soak the rice in fresh water for 30 minutes. This helps the rice grains to absorb some water and ensures they cook evenly.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Steamer

Fill a pot with water (about 1-2 inches) and bring it to a boil. If using a steaming basket, make sure it fits well on top of the pot without touching the water.

  4. 4

    Add Rice to Steamer

After soaking, drain the rice and spread it evenly in the steaming basket. Sprinkle the salt evenly over the rice.

  5. 5

    Steam the Rice

Once the water in the pot is boiling, place the steaming basket over the pot. Cover it with a lid and steam the rice for about 20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and fluffy. Make sure to check occasionally to ensure there is enough water in the pot.

  6. 6

    Fluff and Serve

Once cooked, remove the steaming basket from the pot. Let the rice sit for a few minutes, then fluff it gently with a fork before serving.
