Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Prepare Sweet Potatoes

Wash the sweet potatoes thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt. Pat them dry with a clean towel. If desired, peel the sweet potatoes, but leaving the skin on can add extra flavor and nutrients.

  2. 2

    Cut Sweet Potatoes

Cut the sweet potatoes into uniform cubes, approximately 1 inch in size to ensure even cooking.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Season the Sweet Potatoes

In a large bowl, combine the sweet potato cubes, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, pepper, and olive oil. Toss until the sweet potatoes are evenly coated with the mixture.

  2. 4

    Prepare the Smoker

Preheat your smoker to 225°F (107°C). If using wood chips, soak them in water for about 30 minutes before use for a more flavorful smoke.

  3. 5

    Smoke the Sweet Potatoes

Place the seasoned sweet potatoes directly on the smoker grate or in a smoker-safe dish. Smoke for about 1 to 1.5 hours, or until the sweet potatoes are tender and have absorbed the smoky flavor.

Serving

  1. 6

    Serve Warm

Once the sweet potatoes are done smoking, remove them from the smoker. If using, sprinkle the chopped pecans and/or top with marshmallows. Serve warm as a delicious side dish or dessert.
