Mushroom Fries
Ranch Dipping Sauce
Method
Mushroom Fries
- 1
Prepare the Mushrooms
Clean the portabella mushrooms with a damp cloth. Remove the stems and slice the caps into thick strips (about 1/2 inch thick).
- 2
Make the Batter
In a medium bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix well.
- 3
- 4
Coat the Mushroom Strips
Dip each mushroom strip into the flour mixture, then into the egg mixture, and finally coat with breadcrumbs. Ensure they are well coated.
- 5
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 6
Fry the Mushroom Strips
Carefully add the coated mushroom strips into the hot oil in batches. Fry for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown, turning occasionally for even cooking.
- 7
Drain and Serve
Remove the fried mushroom fries and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot.
Ranch Dipping Sauce
- 8
Prepare the Dipping Sauce
In a small bowl, mix together mayonnaise, sour cream, dried dill, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and lemon juice. Stir until smooth and well combined.
- 9
Chill
Cover the sauce and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
