Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C). This ensures that your ham cooks evenly.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Ham

Remove any packaging and place the whole ham on a roasting rack in a large roasting pan. Score the surface of the ham in a diamond pattern to allow the glaze to penetrate.

Making the Glaze

  1. 3

    Combine Ingredients

In a medium saucepan, combine the brown sugar, honey, Dijon mustard, ground cloves, and ground black pepper. Mix well until you have a smooth glaze.

  2. 4

    Add Water

Add 2 cups of water to the saucepan. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar is dissolved.

Baking the Ham

  1. 5

    Apply Glaze

Brush half of the glaze over the scored surface of the ham, ensuring it gets into the cuts.

  2. 6

    Bake the Ham

Cover the ham loosely with aluminum foil and place it in the preheated oven. Bake for about 15-18 minutes per pound, or until the internal temperature reaches 140°F (60°C).

  3. 7

    Baste the Ham

Every 30 minutes, remove the foil and baste the ham with the remaining glaze, adding more water to the pan as needed to prevent drying.

  4. 8

    Add Pineapple and Cherries (Optional)

If using, place pineapple slices and maraschino cherries on the ham during the last 30 minutes of cooking for added flavor and decoration.

Finishing Touches

  1. 9

    Rest the Ham

Once the ham is done, remove it from the oven and let it rest for about 15-20 minutes before carving. This allows the juices to redistribute.

  2. 10

    Carve and Serve

Carve the ham into slices and serve warm with your choice of sides.
