Base Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare it for baking.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk together until evenly mixed.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the milk, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and eggs until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

  5. 5

    Prepare Baking Dish

Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with a little oil or cooking spray. Pour the batter into the prepared dish.

Baking

  1. 6

    Bake the Base

Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  2. 7

    Cool the Base

Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool in the dish for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Topping

  1. 8

    Prepare the Topping

While the base is cooling, wash the fresh berries and mint leaves thoroughly. Slice the strawberries if using.

  2. 9

    Assemble the Dish

Once the base is completely cool, cut it into squares. Top each square with fresh berries, a dollop of whipped cream, and a sprinkle of mint leaves.
