Method
Prepare the Protein
For Ground Beef
In a skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes, breaking it apart with a spatula.
For Chicken Breast
In a saucepan, bring water to a boil. Add chicken breasts and cook for 15-20 minutes until fully cooked. Remove and shred.
For Black Beans
Drain and rinse the black beans. In a small pot, heat them over medium heat until warmed through.
Season the Protein
For ground beef, add taco seasoning (chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper) to the skillet. Stir and let cook for another 2-3 minutes until well combined.
For shredded chicken, mix the same taco seasoning with the chicken and a splash of water, stir to combine, and heat for another 2 minutes.
Prepare the Tortillas
Warm the corn tortillas in a dry skillet over medium heat for about 30 seconds on each side until pliable. If you prefer crispy tortillas, fry them in a bit of oil until golden brown.
Assemble the Tacos
Place a generous portion of the cooked protein onto each tortilla.
Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, sour cream, and jalapeños.
Serve
Serve the tacos immediately with lime wedges on the side if desired.
