1. Prepare the Beans
Soak the black beans in water overnight. Drain and rinse before cooking.

4. Add Beans and Season
Stir in the soaked black beans, bay leaves, salt, and black pepper. Add enough water to cover the ingredients.
5. Simmer
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for about 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
6. Serve
Remove bay leaves. Serve hot with rice, sautéed collard greens, vinaigrette, farofa, and orange slices.
