Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Beans

Rinse the black beans under cold water and soak them overnight in a large bowl with plenty of water.

  2. 2

    Sauté Vegetables

In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and bell pepper, and sauté until soft, about 5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

  3. 3

    Add Beans and Spices

Drain the soaked beans and add them to the pot. Add the diced tomato, cumin, bay leaves, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine.

  4. 4

    Simmer

Pour in the water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, and let simmer for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the beans are tender.

  5. 5

    Serve

Remove the bay leaves. Serve the feijão preto hot, garnished with fresh chopped cilantro.
