For the Spicy Tempura Shrimp and Pickled Slaw

Method

Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pickled Slaw

In a large bowl, combine shredded cabbage and julienned carrots. In a separate bowl, whisk together rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Pour the vinegar mixture over the cabbage and carrots, mix well, and let sit for at least 30 minutes to pickle.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Tempura Shrimp

In a mixing bowl, combine tempura batter mix and ice water until smooth. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat. Dip each shrimp into the batter and carefully place into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  3. 3

    Steam the Bao Buns

While the shrimp is frying, steam the bao buns according to package instructions until soft and warm.

  4. 4

    Assemble the Bao Buns

To assemble, place a few pieces of tempura shrimp into each bao bun. Top with pickled slaw, a drizzle of Sriracha, and garnish with chopped green onions and toasted sesame seeds.
