Method

Preparation of Tofu

  1. 1

    Drain and Press Tofu

Remove the tofu from its packaging and drain the liquid. Wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel or paper towels and place a heavy object (like a cast iron skillet) on top. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes to remove excess moisture.

  2. 2

    Cut Tofu into Cubes

Once the tofu is pressed, cut it into bite-sized cubes, approximately 1-inch in size.

Coating and Cooking

  1. 3

    Prepare Coating

In a bowl, mix the cornstarch, salt, and black pepper together until well combined.

  2. 4

    Coat Tofu

Toss the tofu cubes in the cornstarch mixture until all sides are evenly coated.

  3. 5

    Heat Oil

In a large skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.

  4. 6

    Fry Tofu

Carefully add the coated tofu cubes to the hot oil in a single layer. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Avoid overcrowding the pan; fry in batches if necessary.

  5. 7

    Drain Excess Oil

Once crispy, remove the tofu from the pan and place it on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.

Serving Suggestions

  1. 8

    Serve with Sauce

If desired, drizzle with soy sauce and sesame oil, and sprinkle with chili flakes for added flavor. Garnish with chopped green onions.

  2. 9

    Enjoy!

Serve the crispy tofu hot as a snack, appetizer, or part of a main dish.
