Cake Preparation

Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Combine Mixtures
Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry mixture, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Add Boiling Water
Stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.

Pour into Pans
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.

Bake the Cake
Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool the Cakes
Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then remove from the pans and transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Melt Chocolate and Butter
In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the semi-sweet chocolate and unsalted butter. Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring in between until melted and smooth.

Fill Ramekins
Divide the molten chocolate mixture evenly among the prepared ramekins.

Bake Molten Centers
Place the ramekins in the oven alongside the cake and bake for 12-14 minutes until the edges are firm but the center is still soft.
