Method
Pie Crust Preparation
- 1
Make the Pie Dough
In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the diced butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together. Shape into a disc, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
Apple Filling Preparation
- 2
Prepare the Apple Filling
In another bowl, combine the sliced apples, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, maple syrup, and cornstarch. Toss until apples are evenly coated. Set aside.
Streusel Topping Preparation
- 3
Make the Streusel
In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, brown sugar, oats, and cinnamon. Pour in the melted butter and mix until crumbly. Set aside.
Assembling and Baking the Pie
- 4
Assemble and Bake
Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Roll out the chilled pie dough on a floured surface to fit into a 9-inch pie pan. Fill the crust with the apple mixture and sprinkle the streusel topping over the apples. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 30-35 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown. Allow to cool before slicing.
