Method
Preparation
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- 2
Make the Cake Batter
- 3
Melt Butter and Chocolate
In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the unsalted butter and semi-sweet chocolate. Heat in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until melted and smooth.
- 4
Mix in Sugar
Once melted, remove the bowl from the microwave and whisk in the granulated sugar until well combined.
- 5
Add Eggs
Whisk in the large eggs, one at a time, until fully incorporated.
- 6
Add Vanilla and Flour
Stir in the vanilla extract, all-purpose flour, and a pinch of salt until just combined. Do not overmix.
Bake the Cakes
- 7
Fill Ramekins
Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling each about 3/4 full.
- 8
Bake
Place the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is still soft.
- 9
Cool Slightly
Remove the ramekins from the oven and let them cool for about 1 minute.
Serve
- 10
Inversion
Carefully invert each ramekin onto a serving plate. Gently tap the bottom to release the cake.
- 11
Add Ice Cream
Top each lava cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and serve immediately.
