Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Vegetables

Dice the onion, carrot, and celery into small pieces. Mince the garlic cloves.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Pasta

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the linguini according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Cooking the Sauce

  1. 3

    Sauté the Vegetables

In a large skillet or pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion, carrot, and celery and sauté for about 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are softened. Add the minced garlic and sauté for an additional 1-2 minutes.

  2. 4

    Brown the Meat

Add the ground Berry beef and ground Stone Cross Farm pork to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 8-10 minutes.

  3. 5

    Add Liquids and Seasonings

Pour in the red wine and allow it to simmer for 2-3 minutes, scraping the bottom of the pan to deglaze. Then add the crushed tomatoes, beef broth, oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Stir to combine.

  4. 6

    Simmer the Sauce

Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let the sauce simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. For a deeper flavor, allow it to simmer longer, up to 1 hour.

Serving

  1. 7

    Plate the Dish

To serve, place a portion of the linguini on a plate, ladle the Bolognese sauce over the top, and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese and chopped fresh basil.
