Flan Ingredients

Method

Flan Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Caramel

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the granulated sugar and water. Stir gently until the sugar is dissolved.

  2. 2

Continue cooking without stirring until the mixture turns a deep amber color, about 10 minutes. Remove from heat immediately to prevent burning.

  3. 3

Quickly pour the caramel into a round flan mold or individual ramekins, tilting to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool and harden.

  4. 4

    Prepare the Custard Mixture

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs until well beaten.

  5. 5

Add the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and fully combined.

  6. 6

    Combine and Bake

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Pour the custard mixture over the hardened caramel in the flan mold.

  7. 7

Place the flan mold into a larger baking dish and fill the baking dish with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the flan mold.

  8. 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until the custard is set and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.

  9. 9

    Cool and Serve

Remove from the oven and let cool at room temperature for about 30 minutes.

  10. 10

Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight to chill completely.

  11. 11

To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan, invert onto a plate, and enjoy your delicious homemade flan!
