Prepare the Yams
Peel the yams and cut them into 1-inch thick slices. Place them in a large pot and cover with water.

Boil the Yams
Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat. Cook the yams for about 10-15 minutes or until they are just tender. Drain and set aside.

Make the Candied Sauce
In a large saucepan, combine the brown sugar, butter, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, salt, and water. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar and butter are dissolved.

Combine and Bake
Add the drained yams to the saucepan with the candied sauce. Stir gently to coat the yams. Transfer everything to a baking dish and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes, until the yams are caramelized and tender.
