Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Bison

Place the half-pound of fresh-ground Kansas bison in a mixing bowl.

  2. 2

    Season the Bison

Add salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika to the mixing bowl with the bison. Mix gently by hand until the spices are evenly distributed throughout the meat.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Form the Patties

Shape the seasoned bison mixture into two equal-sized patties, approximately 1 inch thick.

  2. 4

    Preheat the Grill or Pan

Preheat a grill or a skillet over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes.

  3. 5

    Cook the Patties

Place the bison patties on the hot grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until they reach your preferred level of doneness.

Assembly

  1. 6

    Prepare the Buns

If using, toast the burger buns lightly on the grill or in the oven for added texture.

  2. 7

    Assemble the Burger

Place a cooked bison patty on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Top with lettuce, tomato slices, pickles, mustard, and ketchup as desired. Cover with the top half of the bun.
