Potatoes

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). This ensures that the potatoes cook evenly and develop a crispy skin.

  2. 2

    Wash the Potatoes

Thoroughly wash the russet potatoes under cold water to remove any dirt. Pat them dry with a clean towel.

  3. 3

    Prick the Potatoes

Using a fork, prick each potato 5-6 times. This allows steam to escape during baking, preventing the potatoes from bursting.

  4. 4

    Season the Potatoes

Rub the outside of each potato with a little olive oil (optional) and sprinkle with salt to enhance the flavor.

Baking

  1. 5

    Bake the Potatoes

Place the pricked potatoes directly on the oven rack or on a baking sheet. Bake for 45-60 minutes, or until the skin is crispy and a fork easily pierces the flesh.

Serving

  1. 6

    Remove from Oven

Once cooked, carefully remove the potatoes from the oven using oven mitts. Allow them to cool for a few minutes.

  2. 7

    Cut Open and Add Toppings

Slice each potato down the center, fluffing the insides with a fork. Add butter, sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, chopped green onions, and bacon bits as desired. Season with black pepper to taste.

  3. 8

    Serve

Serve the baked potatoes hot, allowing guests to customize their toppings further if desired.
