Method

Preparing Tortilla Chips

  1. 1

    Cut and Fry Tortillas

Cut the corn tortillas into triangles. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, fry the tortilla triangles in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove from the skillet and drain on paper towels. Season lightly with salt.

Making Salsa Verde

  1. 2

    Boil and Blend Ingredients

In a pot, boil the tomatillos and jalapeño pepper in water until tender, about 10 minutes. Drain and let cool slightly. In a blender, combine boiled tomatillos, jalapeño, garlic cloves, cilantro, lime juice, and salt. Blend until smooth. Adjust seasoning if necessary.

Assembling Chilaquiles

  1. 3

    Combine Chips and Salsa

In a large bowl or on a serving platter, layer the fried tortilla chips and pour the salsa verde over the top, allowing the chips to soak in the sauce.

  2. 4

    Add Toppings

Slice the avocado and red onion. Sprinkle the sliced avocado, crumbled queso fresco, and chopped red onion over the salsa-topped chips. Drizzle generously with crema.

Serving

  1. 5

    Serve with Drink

Serve the chilaquiles immediately, accompanied by a can of your favorite drink.
