- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Make the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and melted butter to the flour. Mix until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
First Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
- 5
Shape the Pretzels
Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope and shape into a pretzel.
- 6

In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water to a boil and add 2/3 cup of baking soda. Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on a greased baking sheet.
