Meatballs and Sauce

Method

Preparation and Cooking

  1. 1

    Make the Meatballs

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, ricotta, egg, breadcrumbs, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined.

  2. 2

    Form the Meatballs

Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 2 inches in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  3. 3

    Brown the Meatballs

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs in batches and cook until browned on all sides. Remove and set aside.

  4. 4

    Prepare the Sauce

In the same skillet, add crushed tomatoes, Italian seasoning, and red wine (if using). Bring to a simmer.

  5. 5

    Combine Meatballs and Sauce

Return the meatballs to the skillet, cover, and simmer for about 20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve the meatballs with the sauce, topped with mozzarella and grated Pecorino Romano.
