Method

Preparation of French Toast Bake

  1. 1

    Prepare the Bread

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Cut the French bread into 1-inch cubes and place them in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.

  2. 2

    Mix Egg Mixture

In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, ensuring all pieces are well coated. Press down gently to submerge any floating pieces. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight.

Caramelizing Bananas

  1. 4

    Prepare Bananas

In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Slice the bananas into rounds and add them to the skillet.

  2. 5

    Add Sugar

Sprinkle the brown sugar over the bananas and cook for 3-5 minutes, stirring gently until the bananas are caramelized and the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and set aside.

Prepare Tres Leches

  1. 6

    Mix Tres Leches

In a medium bowl, combine the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and whole milk. Whisk until fully combined and set aside.

Baking and Serving

  1. 7

    Bake

Remove the baking dish from the refrigerator and pour the tres leches mixture over the soaked bread. Top with caramelized bananas. Bake for 45-55 minutes or until the top is golden and the center is set.

  2. 8

    Serve

Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving. Drizzle with maple syrup and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
