French Bread

Method

Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dough

In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy. Add the olive oil and salt.

  2. 2

    Mix the Ingredients

Gradually add the flour, mixing until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  3. 3

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

  4. 4

    Shape the Bread

Punch down the risen dough and divide it into two equal portions. Shape each portion into a long loaf and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  5. 5

    Second Rise

Cover the loaves with a damp cloth and let them rise again for about 30-45 minutes until puffed.

  6. 6

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

  7. 7

    Bake the Bread

Bake the loaves in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and hollow sounding when tapped.

  8. 8

    Make the Whipped Butter

While the bread is baking, whip the softened butter with chopped rosemary and sea salt until fluffy.

  9. 9

    Serve

Allow the bread to cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm with the whipped rosemary-sea salt butter.
