Chocolate Mousse and Sponge Cake

Method

Preparation of Chocolate Mousse and Sponge Cake

1

Prepare the Sponge Cake

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and line a round cake pan with parchment paper.

2

Mix Dry Ingredients

In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

3

Beat the Eggs and Sugar

In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and sugar together until pale and fluffy.

4

Combine Ingredients

Gently fold in the dry ingredients into the egg mixture, followed by melted butter. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.

5

Bake the Sponge Cake

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Allow to cool.

6

Prepare the Chocolate Mousse

Melt the dark chocolate and butter together in a double boiler or microwave. Allow to cool slightly.

7

Whip the Cream

In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Set aside.

8

Combine Chocolate with Eggs

In another bowl, whisk the eggs with sugar and vanilla extract until frothy. Mix in the melted chocolate slowly.

9

Fold in Whipped Cream

Gently fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture until combined. Be careful not to deflate the mixture.

10

Assemble the Mousse

Place the cooled sponge cake on a serving plate. Pour the chocolate mousse over the sponge and spread evenly.

11

Chill

Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the mousse to set.
