Method
Preparation of the Protein
- 1
Cook the Protein
Choose your desired protein (ground beef, shredded beef, chicken, or pork). In a skillet over medium heat, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil. If using ground beef, cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula. For chicken, cook until no longer pink in the center, about 6-7 minutes. For shredded beef or pork, heat through until warmed.
- 2
Season the Protein
Add cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper to the cooked protein. Stir well to combine and let it cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Preparation of Vegetables
- 3
Chop the Vegetables
Dice the onion, bell pepper, and tomato. Shred the lettuce. Set all the chopped vegetables aside.
Assembling the Burrito
- 4
Warm the Tortillas
In a dry skillet, warm the flour tortillas over medium heat for about 30 seconds on each side until pliable.
- 5
Fill the Burritos
Take a warm tortilla and place a generous amount of the cooked protein in the center. Add a handful of chopped vegetables, a dollop of sour cream, a sprinkle of shredded cheese, and a spoonful of salsa.
- 6
Roll the Burrito
Fold the sides of the tortilla over the filling, then roll from the bottom up to create a secure burrito. Repeat with the remaining tortillas and filling.
Serving
- 7
Serve
Cut the burritos in half and serve with extra salsa and sour cream on the side.
