Tortilla Ingredients

Method

Preparation Directions

  1. 1

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder. Stir well to ensure the dry ingredients are mixed thoroughly.

  2. 2

    Add Wet Ingredients

Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the vegetable oil and warm water. Mix with your hands or a spatula until the dough begins to form.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Rest the Dough

Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 30 minutes. This allows the gluten to relax and makes rolling easier.

  5. 5

    Divide the Dough

After resting, divide the dough into 5 equal pieces and roll each piece into a ball.

  6. 6

    Roll Out Tortillas

On a lightly floured surface, roll out each ball into a thin circle, about 6-8 inches in diameter.

  7. 7

    Cook the Tortillas

Heat a dry skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Cook each tortilla for about 30 seconds on each side, or until lightly browned and cooked through.

  8. 8

    Keep Warm

As you cook the tortillas, keep them warm by wrapping them in a clean kitchen towel.
