Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Coating

In a large bowl, mix together the flour, cornmeal, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. This will be your dry coating for the fish.

  2. 2

    Soak the Fish

Pour the buttermilk into a large container. Submerge the cleaned and scaled fish in the buttermilk for at least 30 minutes. This helps to tenderize the fish and adds flavor.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large frying pan or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). You will need enough oil to submerge the fish, so make sure your pan is deep enough.

  4. 4

    Coat the Fish

Remove the fish from the buttermilk, allowing excess liquid to drip off. Dredge each fish in the flour mixture, ensuring it is fully coated.

  5. 5

    Fry the Fish

Carefully place the coated fish in the hot oil, a few at a time, to avoid overcrowding. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes on each side. Use a slotted spoon to remove the fish and drain on paper towels.

  6. 6

    Serve

Once all the fish are fried, serve immediately while hot. You can serve with lemon wedges and tartar sauce on the side.
