Method

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Arepas

In a large bowl, mix cornmeal, salt, and water until a dough forms. Let it rest for 5 minutes.

  2. 2

    Shape the Arepas

Divide the dough into 4 equal portions and shape each into a disc about 1/2 inch thick.

  3. 3

    Cook the Arepas

Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Cook the arepas for 5-7 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.

  4. 4

    Make the Hogao Sauce

In a separate skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the green onions and garlic, and sauté for 2-3 minutes.

  5. 5

    Combine Ingredients

Add the diced tomatoes, cumin, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally until the sauce thickens.

  6. 6

    Serve

Top each arepa with hogao sauce and optional cheese. Enjoy!
