Flan Ingredients

Method

Flan Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Caramel

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the granulated sugar with 1 tablespoon of water. Stir until the sugar dissolves and then stop stirring. Allow the mixture to boil until it turns golden brown. Immediately pour the caramel into a round flan mold or individual ramekins, swirling to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Flan Mixture

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, brewed coffee, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until well combined and smooth.

  3. 3

    Combine and Bake

Pour the flan mixture over the cooled caramel in the mold. Place the flan mold in a larger baking dish and fill the baking dish with water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the flan mold. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 50-60 minutes, or until the flan is set and a knife inserted comes out clean.

  4. 4

    Cool and Unmold

Remove the flan from the oven and allow it to cool to room temperature. Once cooled, refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight. To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan, invert onto a serving plate, and let the caramel sauce drizzle over the top.
