Method

Preparation Instructions

  1. 1

    Mix the Dough

In a large bowl, combine the pre-cooked cornmeal and salt. Gradually add warm water while mixing with your hands until you form a soft dough that is not sticky. Let it rest for about 5 minutes.

  2. 2

    Shape the Arepas

Divide the dough into 8 equal portions and shape each portion into a ball. Flatten each ball into a patty about 1/2 inch thick.

  3. 3

    Cook the Arepas

Heat a skillet over medium heat and add vegetable oil. Place the arepas in the skillet and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side until they are golden brown and slightly crispy.

  4. 4

    Serve

Remove the arepas from the skillet and let them cool slightly before serving. They can be sliced open and filled with cheese, meats, or any desired toppings.
