In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.

Gradually add the buttermilk to the dry ingredients, stirring until the mixture is smooth and well combined.

In a deep pot or fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

Dip each pickle spear into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated.
