Main Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

Remove the ribeye steak from the refrigerator and allow it to come to room temperature for about 30 minutes. This helps in cooking the steak evenly.

  2. 2

    Season the Steak

Pat the ribeye steak dry with paper towels. Generously season both sides with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Drizzle olive oil over the steak and rub the spices and oil into the meat.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat the Pan

Heat a cast-iron skillet or heavy-bottomed pan over medium-high heat until very hot. You can test the heat by sprinkling a few drops of water in the pan; they should sizzle and evaporate immediately.

  2. 4

    Cook the Steak

Once the pan is hot, carefully place the seasoned ribeye steak in the pan. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side for medium-rare, or until a nice crust forms. Flip the steak and cook for an additional 4-5 minutes on the other side.

  3. 5

    Check for Doneness

Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature. For medium-rare, the temperature should read 130°F (54°C). Adjust cooking time as needed for your preferred doneness.

  4. 6

    Rest the Steak

Once cooked to your liking, remove the steak from the pan and let it rest on a cutting board for about 5-10 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute within the meat.

Serving

  1. 7

    Slice and Serve

After resting, slice the ribeye steak against the grain and serve it with your favorite sides or sauces.
