Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Catfish

Rinse the catfish fillets under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Soak in Buttermilk

Place the fillets in a shallow dish and pour the buttermilk over them. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes.

  3. 3

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, combine the cornmeal, flour, paprika, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.

  4. 4

    Coat the Fillets

Remove the catfish from the buttermilk and allow excess to drip off. Dredge each fillet in the cornmeal mixture, ensuring they are fully coated.

  5. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot.

  6. 6

    Fry the Catfish

Carefully place the coated fillets in the hot oil. Fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through.

  7. 7

    Drain and Serve

Remove the catfish from the skillet and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot with lemon wedges.
