Method

Preparing the Tart Base

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

  2. 2

    Prepare the Kataifi Pastry

In a large bowl, gently separate the strands of kataifi pastry to prevent clumping.

  3. 3

    Melt the Butter

In a small saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over low heat.

  4. 4

    Combine Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, combine the melted butter with the kataifi pastry and granulated sugar. Mix until the kataifi is evenly coated.

  5. 5

    Form the Tart Base

Press the kataifi mixture into the bottom and up the sides of a tart pan to form an even layer. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

Preparing the Apple Filling

  1. 6

    Prepare the Apples

While the tart base is baking, peel and slice the fresh apples into thin wedges.

  2. 7

    Mix Filling Ingredients

In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with brown sugar, ground cinnamon, lemon juice, and cornstarch until evenly coated.

Assembling and Baking the Tart

  1. 8

    Add the Apple Filling

Once the tart base is done baking, remove it from the oven and fill it with the prepared apple mixture, spreading it evenly.

  2. 9

    Bake Again

Return the tart to the oven and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes or until the apples are tender and the top is slightly caramelized.

  3. 10

    Cool and Serve

Allow the tart to cool for at least 10 minutes before slicing. Dust with powdered sugar and serve with whipped cream if desired.
