Prepare Burger Patties

Form the Patties

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently without overworking the meat to avoid tough burgers. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into patties.

Cook the Patties

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on one side. Flip the patties and cook for another 3-4 minutes for medium doneness. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty to melt.

Wash the lettuce leaves and pat them dry. Slice the tomato into even rounds. Set aside the pickles.

If desired, lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster.

On the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by a cheesy patty, tomato slices, pickles, and desired amounts of ketchup and mustard. Top with the other half of the bun.
