Flatbread Dough

Method

Preparation and Cooking

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dough

In a small bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast in warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.

  2. 2

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Form the dough into a ball.

  3. 3

    Let the Dough Rise

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

  4. 4

    Shape the Flatbreads

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then flatten it into a round shape about 1/4 inch thick.

  5. 5

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your stone oven or pizza stone in the oven to 475°F (245°C) for at least 30 minutes.

  6. 6

    Cook the Flatbreads

Transfer the flatbreads onto the preheated stone and bake for 4-6 minutes until they puff up and are lightly golden.

  7. 7

    Serve

Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and serve warm with your favorite dips or toppings.
