Ingredients for Baked Elbow Macaroni

Method

Directions for Baked Elbow Macaroni

  1. 1

    Cook the Macaroni

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Cheese Sauce

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for about 1-2 minutes until it forms a paste (roux). Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps.

  3. 3

    Add Cheese

Continue to cook the sauce, stirring constantly until it thickens. Add the cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Stir until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth.

  4. 4

Combine and Transfer to Baking Dish

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked macaroni and cheese sauce. Mix well until the macaroni is fully coated. Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish.

  5. 5

    Add Topping and Bake

If using, sprinkle the breadcrumbs on top of the macaroni mixture. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until bubbly and golden brown on top.

  6. 6

    Serve

Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your creamy baked elbow macaroni!
