Prepare the Patties
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.

Form the Patties
Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into patties, slightly larger than the size of the buns as they will shrink while cooking.

Add Seasoning
Stir in the brown sugar, balsamic vinegar, salt, and black pepper. Cook for an additional 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens and becomes jam-like.

Assemble the Burgers
Spread mayonnaise (if using) on the bottom half of each bun. Place a lettuce leaf, followed by a slice of tomato, and then the cooked patty with melted Swiss cheese. Top with a generous spoonful of mushroom jam and finish with the top half of the bun.
