Salad Base

Pickling Solution

Asian Vinaigrette

Method

Preparation of Pickled Onions

  1. 1

    Make Pickling Solution

In a small saucepan, combine rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Heat over medium heat until sugar and salt dissolve completely, then remove from heat.

  2. 2

    Pickle the Onions

Thinly slice the red onion and place it in a jar. Pour the pickling solution over the onions, ensuring they are fully submerged. Let them sit for at least 30 minutes or refrigerate for up to a week.

Cooking the Ahi Tuna

  1. 3

    Sear the Tuna

Preheat a skillet over high heat. Season the ahi tuna with salt and pepper. Add a little oil to the skillet, then sear the tuna for about 1-2 minutes on each side for rare, or longer if desired. Remove from heat and let it rest.

Preparing the Salad

  1. 4

    Slice the Vegetables

While the tuna is resting, slice the cucumber and avocado into thin slices.

  2. 5

    Assemble the Salad

On a plate, arrange the cucumber slices, avocado slices, and top with the sliced ahi tuna. Add pickled onions on top.

Making the Vinaigrette

  1. 6

    Mix the Vinaigrette

In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, honey, grated ginger, and minced garlic until well combined.

  2. 7

    Dress the Salad

Drizzle the Asian vinaigrette over the salad before serving.
