Method

Prepare the Batter

  1. 1

    Mix the Batter Ingredients

In a bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Gradually whisk in the Hoyne Pilsner beer until smooth. Let the batter sit for about 15 minutes.

Prepare the Fish

  1. 2

    Season the Cod

Pat the cod fillets dry with paper towels. Season with salt and black pepper on both sides.

Make the Coleslaw

  1. 3

    Combine Coleslaw Ingredients

In a large bowl, mix the shredded cabbage and grated carrot. In a separate bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, sugar, and salt. Pour the dressing over the cabbage mixture and toss to combine. Refrigerate until serving.

Make the Tartar Sauce

  1. 4

    Mix Tartar Sauce Ingredients

In a bowl, combine mayonnaise, pickles, lemon juice, and fresh dill. Mix well and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Fry the Fish

  1. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a deep pot or fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 6

    Coat and Fry the Fish

Dip each seasoned cod fillet into the batter, allowing excess to drip off. Carefully place the fillet in the hot oil and fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Serve

  1. 7

    Plate and Enjoy

Serve the fish hot with coleslaw and tartar sauce on the side.
