Cooking Instructions
- 1
Prepare the Meat
Cut the pork shoulder into large chunks and season with sea salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well to coat the meat evenly.
- 2
Layer the Ingredients
In a large bowl, layer the seasoned pork shoulder chunks and boneless chicken thighs. Pour the soy sauce and water over the meat, ensuring it is well coated.
- 3
Wrap with Ti Leaves
Place a few ti leaves on a large piece of aluminum foil. Add a portion of the meat mixture on top of the leaves. Fold the leaves over the meat, then wrap tightly in the foil. Repeat with the remaining meat mixture.
- 4
Steam the Laulau
Place the wrapped laulau packets in a steamer basket or a large pot with a steaming rack. Fill the pot with water, making sure it doesn't touch the laulau packets. Cover and steam for 3-4 hours, until the meat is tender.
- 5
Serve
Carefully unwrap the laulau packets and serve with Hawaiian sweet bread on the side. Enjoy!
