Custard Pie Ingredients

Method

Custard Pie Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pie Crust

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Roll out the pie crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish. Trim the edges and prick the bottom with a fork to prevent bubbling.

  2. 2

    Pre-bake the Crust

Place a piece of parchment paper over the crust and fill it with pie weights or dried beans. Bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes. Remove the weights and parchment and bake for an additional 5 minutes until lightly golden. Set aside to cool.

  3. 3

    Make the Custard Filling

In a saucepan, heat the whole milk on medium until it is just about to simmer. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, salt, and nutmeg until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine and Cook

Slowly pour the hot milk into the egg mixture while whisking continuously to temper the eggs. Pour the combined mixture back into the saucepan and cook on low heat, stirring constantly, until the custard thickens slightly and coats the back of a spoon.

  5. 5

    Fill the Pie Crust

Pour the custard filling into the pre-baked pie crust. Smooth the top with a spatula.

  6. 6

    Bake the Custard Pie

Reduce the oven temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake the pie for about 30-35 minutes, or until the custard is set and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool and Serve

Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool to room temperature. Serve chilled or at room temperature, optionally garnished with a sprinkle of nutmeg.
