Burger Patties

Toppings

Method

Prepare the Burger Patties

  1. 1

    Mash the Beans

In a large mixing bowl, mash the canned black beans with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth, leaving some chunks for texture.

  2. 2

    Combine Ingredients

Add the oats, chopped onion, minced garlic, ground cumin, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, and olive oil to the mashed beans. Mix until well combined.

  3. 3

    Form Patties

Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape each portion into a burger patty.

Cook the Patties

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a non-stick skillet, heat a tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat.

  2. 5

    Cook the Patties

Place the burger patties in the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and heated through.

Assemble the Burger

  1. 6

    Prepare the Buns

While the patties are cooking, toast the burger buns lightly if desired.

  2. 7

    Layer the Toppings

On the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by the cooked burger patty, a slice of tomato, sliced pickles, and any additional condiments like ketchup and mustard.

  3. 8

    Finish the Burger

Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately.
