Method

Cooking Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring 4-5 cups of water to a rolling boil. Add a pinch of salt.

  2. 2

    Cook Pasta

Add the elbow macaroni to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 7-8 minutes.

  3. 3

    Drain and Set Aside

Once cooked, drain the pasta in a colander and set aside.

Making Cheese Sauce

  1. 4

    Melt Butter

In the same pot used for pasta, melt 4 tablespoons of butter over medium heat.

  2. 5

Whisk in 4 tablespoons of all-purpose flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until slightly golden.

Slowly pour in 2 cups of milk, whisking continuously to avoid lumps. Cook until the mixture thickens, about 5 minutes.

  4. 7

    Add Cheese and Seasonings

Remove from heat and stir in 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese, 0.5 tsp of salt, 0.25 tsp of black pepper, 0.5 tsp of garlic powder, and 0.5 tsp of mustard powder until smooth.
