Burger Components

Fried Pickles and Tumbleweed Onions

Method

Pulled Pork Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pork

Rub the pork shoulder with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Place in a slow cooker.

  2. 2

    Cook the Pork

Cook on low for 8 hours or until the pork is tender and easily pulls apart.

  3. 3

    Shred the Pork

Remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Mix with BBQ sauce.

Spicy Sweet BBQ Sauce Preparation

  1. 4

    Combine Ingredients

In a saucepan, combine ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, smoked paprika, and salt.

  2. 5

    Cook the Sauce

Simmer over medium heat for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally until the sauce thickens.

Fried Pickles and Tumbleweed Onions Preparation

  1. 6

    Prepare the Batter

In a bowl, mix flour, cornmeal, egg, and milk until smooth.

  2. 7

    Fry the Pickles

Heat oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Dip pickles in the batter and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes. Drain on paper towels.

  3. 8

    Fry the Onions

Dip the sliced onions in the same batter and fry until crispy and golden, about 3-4 minutes. Drain on paper towels.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 9

    Grill the Beef Patties

Form the ground beef into 4 equal patties and season with salt and pepper. Grill over medium heat until cooked to your liking, about 4-5 minutes per side.

  2. 10

    Melt the Cheese

Top each cooked beef patty with a slice of Havarti cheese and cover the grill for 1-2 minutes until melted.

  3. 11

    Assemble the Burger

On each bun, layer lettuce, tomato, pulled pork, fried pickles, tumbleweed onions, and the beef patty with melted cheese. Drizzle with the spicy sweet BBQ sauce.
