Method
Fried Green Tomatoes
- 1
Prepare the Tomatoes
Slice the green tomatoes into thick slices, about 1/2 inch thick. Sprinkle both sides with salt and let them sit for about 10 minutes to draw out moisture.

Set up Dredging Stations
In one bowl, place the all-purpose flour. In another bowl, pour the buttermilk. In a third bowl, mix together cornmeal, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.

Dredge the Tomatoes
Coat each tomato slice first in the flour, then dip in buttermilk, and finally dredge in the cornmeal mixture. Ensure they are well coated.
- 4
Fry the Tomatoes
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the coated tomato slices in batches, frying for about 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
